NodeXL v.79 enters the matrix

Many network analysts store their data in the form of a matrix in which each entity in the network is repeated as row and column headings.  Whenever two entities have a relationship a value is entered in the cell at the intersection of their row and column.  The same data can be represented in the form of an “edge list” in which each pair of entities are represented by the pairs of their names in a single line.  Node lists can be more compact, particularly when netwrks are relatively sparse.  Matrices are a very popular form of data format for network analysts, however, and with the latest release of NodeXL, the add-in now supports the use of this data format.

* You can now import a graph that is stored as an adjacency matrix in another Excel workbook. In the Excel Ribbon, go to NodeXL, Graph, Import, From Open Matrix Workbook.

* You can also export a NodeXL graph to a new Excel workbook as an adjacency matrix. Go to NodeXL, Graph, Export, To New Matrix Workbook.

* The term “Tie Strength” has been replaced with “Edge Weight.”

* Bug fix: Certain sequences could lead to an assertion. The assertion message started with “at ExcelUtil.TryGetSelectedTableRange(…” One such sequence that caused this: Use Excel’s table filtering to filter the Edges table, select the Vertices worksheet, and click Read Worksheet. Another such sequence: Filter the Edges table, select the Vertices worksheet, and click Calculate Graph Metrics.

* Bug fix: Vertex tooltips in the graph pane, which can be added to the graph with the Tooltips column in the Vertices worksheet, were partially obscured by the mouse cursor.
